IPL 4 2011: Chennai Super Kings Vs Pune Warriors India

It has just been a few days since both these teams met and Chennai registered an emphatic wins by defending a low score. It was Pune who gave away the match after starting very well were criticized for losing badly. Chennai will surely be hoping for some Ashwin magic in today’s match. Let’s have a look at both the teams and how they fair against each other:

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai is amongst the most dangerous sides in the competition. The defending champions have much to prove this year as they haven’t lived up to their name. Losing a couple of matches before defeating Pune Warriors in the last match have left them stranded amidst the struggling teams.

But the win in the last match against Warriors must have given them the confidence to start their campaign all over again. MS Dhoni and his boys will be hoping to repeat the recent win against Warriors and make it count twice. Their strength lies in Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey who have been fantastic in opening the batting. But the main are of worry is the middle order which looks fragile despite having players like Albie Morkel, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.  CSK will certainly be hoping that Raina returns to his original form which made him such a dangerous batsmen. On the bowling front the side looks pretty balanced as Doug Bollinger has added the fire power. But it will be interesting to see how Ashwin’s game is picked up after the fantastic performance in the last match.

Pune Warriors India

Pune Warriors India made a great start to the competition by beating Kings XI Punjab and Kochi Tuskers. But after losing to Delhi Daredevils they have looked out of colour and have lost 3 games on the trot. Pune certainly have no shortage of quality players as Jesse Ryder and Yuvraj Singh are two of the key players. With the return of Manish Pandey the batting looks even better. The middle order again is a worry as Robin Uthappa is not in blistering form. Another area of worry for Warriors is Graeme Smith, who looks out of color, but it is just a matter of one innings till a player of his class gets out of the shell.

Pune will surely be hoping that their star players make a mark while Chennai will try to keep their winning form. Nonetheless it will be a game of character and whosoever manages to hold their nerve will come out victorious.

Pune Warriors vs Chennai Super Kings IPL 2011 Live Scorecard

YUVRAJ SINGH-LED Pune Warriors has a great chance to take revenge from MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings of its defeat. Two days back Chennai Super Kings defeated Pune Warriors by 25 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Warriors' defeat to Super Kings is its third out of five contested in the IPL 4.

In the last match that took place less than 48 hours back visitors Pune restricted Chennai to 142, but Dhoni's men showed their winning instinct, and with the help of extra ordinary fielding and catching won the match by 25 runs.

Chennai Super Kings has won all their home games against Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors - but lost away games against Kings XI Punjab and Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

Pune Warriors won first two matches of its IPL against Kings XI Punjab and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, but in the next three matches it lost against Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

Just like Pune's captain Yuvraj Singh, other cricketers will also have to show consistency in batting, bowling and fielding departments. Pune has some good cricketers such as Jesse Ryder, Graeme Smith, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Callum Ferguson, Nathan McCullum, Tim Paine, Wayne Parnell, who can score or can take wickets for the team.

Super Kings star batsman Michael Hussey is in great form. He is getting runs in every matche. Subramaniam Badrinath and Murali Vijay are also playing good cricket. In bowling, Albie Morkel is leading from the front. R Ashwin is also not allowing batsmen to score runs easily.

Here are the teams of Pune Warriors and Chennai Super Kings:

Pune Warriors: Yuvraj Singh (capt.), Robin Uthappa (wk), Murali Kartik, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Deeraj Jadhav, Eklavya Dwivedi, Ganesh Gaikwad, Harpreet Singh Bhatia, Harshad Khadiwale, Kamran Khan, Mithun Manhas, Mohnish Mishra, Rahul Sharma, Sachin Rana, Shrikant Wagh, Shrikant Mundhe, Imtiyaz Ahmed, Jesse Ryder, Graeme Smith, Wayne Parnell, Alphonso Thomas. Tim Paine, Callum Ferguson, Mitchell Marsh, Jerome Taylor, James Faulkner.
Chennai Super Kings: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt.), M Vijay, Suresh Raina, S Badrinath, R Ashwin, S Anirudha, Shadab Jakati, Michael Hussey, Albie Morkel, D Bollinger, G Bailey, T Southee, F du Plessis, Suraj Randiv, Nuwan Kulasekara, Joginder Sharma, Yo Mahesh, A Mukund, W Saha, Scott Styris, Sudeep Tyagi, K Vasudevadas, G Vignesh.

London Olympic Stadium – Unique Design

London Olympic Stadium Construction – Architectural Marvel

With the London 2012 Olympics promising to be one of the most spectacular events ever, the organizers are planning to build a Olympic stadium which would be one of the most unique, modern and large stadiums in the world.  In fact, the Olympic stadium promises to be one of the major attractions of the London 2012 Olympics.  The stadium is proposed to be built at the Lower Lea Valley in Stratford.  The location chosen at Stratford is Marshgate Lane.

london olympic stadium designYou would be amazed to note that the capacity of the Olympic Stadium would be a massive eighty thousand.  This would also make it the third largest and one of the most modern in Britain.  As already known, the Wembley stadium is the largest in Britain.  What is most unique about the Olympics Stadium design is that the huge capacity of eighty thousand can be greatly and easily reduced to twenty five thousand after the Olympic Games are over.  This is definitely an architectural marvel.

Although, the Olympic Stadium is made up of layers, many of them are temporary.  The method of constructing the Olympic Stadium has been formulated intelligently based on the principle of cut and fill.  Under this approach, the land is dug deep till it assumes the shape of a bowl, which would be easily able to accommodate twenty five thousand permanent seats.  In other words, this bowl structure forms the permanent part of the Olympic Stadium.  The architects have also planned to build a temporary structure above the permanent structure which would accommodate a good fifty five thousand individuals.

You should also note that the track and field part of the Olympic Stadium is being laid around the permanent structure.  This has been done mainly by excavating the soft clay from the earth.  The whole job is being done by using rakers made of concrete.  The ground over there has got a natural slope and the architects have taken full advantage of this aspect to incorporate this in to the Olympic Stadium design.  The changing rooms and warm-up areas are also being planned to be built in the basement region.  The upper temporary structure is made of lightweight steel and concrete which is demountable, in order to accommodate fifty five thousand spectators.  This work is going on at a brisk pace.

It has been decided that the temporary structure of the Olympic Stadium would be made using fabric which is lightweight.  The entire roof of the Olympic Stadium is going to be made out of fabric and would be based on the principles of engineering, governing a bicycle wheel.  The roof, although made from fabric would be strong enough to hold all the lights installed for the various sporting events and ceremonies.

The Olympic stadium is being built using state of the art technology since it is going to play host to millions of fans watching the sports events on their television, thousands of spectators who would be attending the games, the press from the world over, the various heads of states and some of the world’s greatest sportsmen.  The key feature of this wonderful modern stadium is that once the Olympic Games are over, this stadium can be used for local and domestic purpose.  This is one of the main objectives behind the unique spectacular design of the Olympic Stadium.

Draw of lots tomorrow for DDA housing scheme 2010

NEW DELHI: The wait to know whether you will be able to own a flat in Delhi ends in a couple of days as the DDA holds a draw of lots tomorrow for 16,000 flats offered under its latest housing scheme.

Some 7.53 lakh applicants are vying for the flats, located in areas like Vasant Kunj, Mukherjee Nagar , Motia Khan , Jasola , Dwarka, Rohini, Narela, Jaffarabad, Kondli and Gharoli. There are one, two and three bedroom flats with the prices ranging from Rs 9 lakh to Rs Rs 1.12 crore.

The results of the draw, the biggest ever in the history of DDA, will be uploaded on DDA website and published in newspapers by April 19. The allotment might be given by the end of the year.

The housing scheme was launched on November 25, 2010. Asked about the allegations of irregularities that had cropped up during the last draw of lots for its housing scheme, Delhi Development Authority officials said all necessary checks and balances are in place.

"The draw is being held in a transparent manner in the presence of independent senior observers from diverse fields," an official of the housing agency said.

For the first time, the draw will not be held in DDA headquarters but at the office of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in Noida.

"The draw is being held in Noida only due to the fact that the number of applicants and the number of flats being allotted under the scheme is high as compared to earlier schemes. CDAC has better wherewithal and expertise to conduct the draw of such a magnitude and it is not possible to transport the equipments from there," the official said.

The DDA said that as there is limited space at the CDAC premises, it will be difficult to accommodate everyone wishing to witness the draw.

India vs Lanka: Why Kumar Sangakkara needs to win

Kumar Sangakkara has never been shy of attaching a higher significance to cricket. After winning the semi-final against New Zealand, which also ended their hosting involvement in the tournament, he said life in Sri Lanka seems normal when cricket is played. Before the final against India, he said in a similar vein, "It [winning the World Cup] means everything. We have come through a very tough period. A lot of people have laid down lives for our country. In this new future, hopefully we can take home the World Cup, and that will be even more occasion for celebration."

It is a beautiful thought, a sport healing the wounds of a nation, but it is also an unnecessary burden on a game. To Sangakkara and his team, though, bringing smiles to the faces of a beleaguered people is an obvious motivation. They don't seem to see it as extra pressure. Every Sri Lankan player carries a Sri Lankan flag with him, and the first thing they do when they reach a dressing room is to place those flags over their seats.

Sangakkara has led Sri Lanka during a tumultuous period for their cricket. His first assignment as captain was when the team was coming out of the shock of Lahore. In their first tournament back, they played an entertaining brand of cricket, and made it to the final of the World Twenty20 in England. Since then there have been unsubstantiated match-fixing claims, past players have not been subtle with their displeasure over the players' involvement with the IPL, there was controversy involving a senior player when the team went to Zimbabwe, there has been political pressure to keep playing players who were better off making way for youngsters, and of course Muttiah Muralitharan has slowly phased himself out. It has been tough to keep the team together, says a team source, but Sangakkara has managed to do that.

Sangakkara has also done it his way. He has managed to put together a team that has forged its own identity, one that plays its own brand of cricket. His side has been different from the 1996 side, and although it is an extension of Mahela Jayawardene's side, there is a Sangakkara stamp on it. Jayawardene still plays a significant part in where the team heads, but Sangakkara brings his own touch too.

He talks about the importance of not wanting to be some other team. "The inspiration has always been there since they [the 1996 team] won," Sangakkara said. "Everything that has come after is because that was a big factor. For us, 1996 is that particular year that belongs to that particular team. Since then there have been other teams trying to forge their own path and leave their own legacy for Sri Lankan cricket. Sri Lanka has kicked on from that, achieved great heights in cricket. A World Cup is a World Cup, be it 1996 or 2011."

Sangakkara, though not tactically as sharp as Jayawardene, has focused a lot on the fielding and the aggression. He doesn't mind gamesmanship, he doesn't preach. He does not get intimidated, nor does his side. He has tried to bring a bit of Australia to a talented side in order to make sure they win more. The side has responded too. Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lasith Malinga have been the cornerstones. Nor have they turned their backs on their traditional strengths. Sangakkara has strived for a delicate mix, where Thilan Samaraweera and Dilshan co-exist, and complement.

Sangakkara is also a man aware of the history and is conscious of the legacy that he leaves behind. He has been part of a side that has made a World Cup final, he has captained the side to a World Twenty20 final, and led it to a first ODI series win in Australia, but he knows legacies are not built on finals but on title wins. On Test wins in Australia, South Africa and India, for which they will hopefully get more chances in the new FTP. On World Cup wins, for which they have earned a second shot in a row.

"It's just the occasion. Use the occasion to lift yourselves," Sangakkara said. "World Cups bring out the best in players, sometimes the worst. I think, for us, tomorrow is going to be about controlled aggression. Not being too emotional about anything, trying to be clinical, trying to stay grounded, and in the moment. Take things as they come. You can plan and strategise as much as possible, but things can change out there in the middle. Be fluid, and do what we know we can do."

World Cups often bring closures to teams. There is a certain finality to the way they end. At the end of the World Cups, teams are reorganised with the next World Cup being part of the vision. Already many captains of vanquished sides have relinquished their positions. Tomorrow one captain will surely become one of his country's best ever. The runners-up will just be a honourable mention. Sangakkara and Jayawardene know that feeling from four years ago. They wouldn't want to experience it again.
